PLYMOUTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER SANDRA WRIGHT KICKS-OFF CANDIDACY FOR OPEN 8TH PLYMOUTH STATE REP. SEAT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                        Monday, June 24, 2024

BRIDGEWATER, MA – Sandra Wright, a four-term Plymouth County Commissioner from Bridgewater, today officially kicked-off her candidacy for the open 8th Plymouth District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Wright, a Republican, is running to replace longtime State Representative Angelo D’Emilia, R-Bridgewater, who is retiring from the Legislature.  The towns of Bridgewater and Raynham comprise the 8th Plymouth District.  Wright is unopposed in the Republican primary.

“For the last 14 years, Representative Angelo D’Emilia has effectively and energetically served our neighbors in Bridgewater and Raynham,” said Wright.  “We were elected together in 2010 – Angelo to the House and me as a Plymouth County Commissioner.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Angelo to defend taxpayers from runaway spending, the migrant crisis, rising inflation and burdensome taxes and excessive regulations.  I look forward to continuing Angelo’s legacy of common-sense representation on Beacon Hill and responsive advocacy for the people in Bridgewater and Raynham.”

“I am dedicated to public service and helping others,” said Wright.  “It has been an honor to serve all the people of Plymouth County as a County Commissioner.  I am proud of my past work on Bridgewater’s Board of Health, Town Council and the Plymouth County Charter Commission.”

“No one will work harder for the people of Bridgewater and Raynham than I will,” pledged Wright.  “I can make this bold promise because effective community leadership has been my life’s work.”

In addition to Commissioner Wright’s public service experience in local and county government, she served others in the emergency room of Good Samaritan Hospital for 18 years, worked as a firefighter EMT instructor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and a National Safety Council instructor in water survival and rescue.  Wright also is an independent small businesswoman.

“My campaign for state representative is now underway,” said Wright.  “I look forward to engaging in a vigorous conversation with people of Bridgewater and Raynham about the challenges we face in Massachusetts.  We need change.  In Bridgewater and Raynham, we know this.  It’s not complicated for us.  Unfortunately, in Boston our current leadership in state government doesn’t get it.  We must get Massachusetts back on track.  Here’s what real change looks like: reform of the state’s right-to-shelter law, pro-economic development policies that grow new jobs in our communities and an end to excessive state government regulations and mandates that destroy the unique character of our communities.”

“Together, we can get Massachusetts back on the right track.  I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail,” said Wright.
